What is a PTSA?

“PTA’s mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.”

At LP we add an "S" because we involve our students so they have a voice too. Our Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) helps students reach their potential by:

  • Supporting and enhancing their school experience
  • Involving them in community and social events
  • Providing extra educational opportunities, assemblies, and field trips.

When families support our fundraisers and programs, our mission is realized!

How Do We Support The School?

We support the school through:

  • Parent Participation
  • Collaboration
  • Innovation
  • Action

Parent Participation

Parent Participation is expected at Lincoln Prairie School. We ask our families to participate as volunteers in the classroom or at events where our school partners with the PTSA. We have countless opportunities for involvement and our administrators value our support.

When parents and families are involved, research shows, students are more likely to:

  • Have a positive attitude toward school
  • Finish homework and earn higher grades
  • Have better school attendance
  • Increase their social skills
  • Graduate and go on to postsecondary education

Collaboration and Innovation

Our PTSA has been collaborating with administrators, teachers and community members since 1999. Back then, this innovative group of community members dreamt of a new kind of school.

They dreamt of a school:

  • Responsive to the needs of all learners
  • Respectful of its environment
  • With meaningful, real-life, learning experiences
  • Where students have an opportunity to explore their particular areas of interest.

This dream, along with district 54's commitment to choice, created Lincoln Prairie.

Action

The PTSA has 30 different Volunteer-run activities and over 100 active, involved, parents. This is how we enhance our children's school experience and support the LP mission.

We offer:

  • Seasonal and social events
  • Curriculum-related, teacher-supported assemblies
  • Weekly hot lunch (for purchase from local business’),
  • Bi-monthly treat days
  • Extra help when the LP staff needs it

The Big Picture

Our PTSA is proud to be a part of District 54 and our local Schaumburg Township Council (STC). Each month, our PTSA partners with all 28 schools in the district to make up the STC in order to share resources and best practices. We further support the STC in is mission and assist in providing scholarships to local students for summer camp and for college.

The LP PTSA is also part of the Illinois PTA Northwest Cook Region 37 which encompasses Elk Grove, Palatine, Schaumburg, Wheeling, and Barrington Townships, plus that part of Lake County, which lies within the Barrington Elementary School District. In short, PTA District 37 currently consists of 62 Local Units and 3 Councils in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago.

Together we are a powerful voice for children in Illinois. With the help of local families, we can continue to work toward the PTA’s goal of a quality education and nurturing environment for every child.
